Thanks to the eye-opening scenes of Blue Planet, more and more of the population are considering the impact of their actions. We are in awe of the work that Sir David Attenborough has done.
That’s why, at The March Hare Bakery we are committed to being as sustainable as we possibly can, in order to reduce the impact our bakery has on the planet.
Our Packaging
We prioritise sustainable packaging for our macarons and chocolatey treats. Our packaging is designed to be convenient and portable, making it easy for you to enjoy our delightful treats on the go. We are committed to minimising our environmental impact, which is why we carefully select materials that are either biodegradable, made from recycled materials, or 100% recyclable.
In our efforts to reduce plastic waste, any plastic used as filler in our postal packaging is recycled plastic sourced from our own purchases. We believe in the importance of circularity, so we encourage our customers to pass on the recycled plastic they receive in their order to the next person, ensuring it continues to be reused and recycled.
With our sustainable packaging, you can indulge in our macarons and chocolatey treats while knowing that you are making an eco-conscious choice. Join us in our commitment to a greener future and let's create a cycle of recycling and sustainability together.
Small Batch Baking
We take pride in our small-batch baking process. Each and every macaron is freshly baked to order, ensuring the utmost quality and flavour in every bite. By baking in small batches, we minimise waste and ensure that no ingredients are left unused.
We believe in making the most of every macaron, even the imperfect ones. Any leftover or imperfect macarons are repurposed to create other delightful treats like our Maca-Wrongs and Wonky Mac Bites. These creations not only help us reduce food waste but also offer our customers a chance to enjoy unique and delicious treats that showcase our creativity.
In the spirit of spreading the Macaron Love, we also give away any excess macarons to share the joy with our community. We believe that every macaron should be cherished and enjoyed, and our small-batch baking approach allows us to uphold this philosophy while minimising waste.
Indulge in our freshly baked macarons, knowing that each one is made with care and a commitment to sustainability.

Experience the Freshness of Small-Batch Baking - Shop NowIf you’re wondering what packaging items are recyclable, non recyclable or biodegradable, and want to ensure everything that makes it into your bin finds a second life, follow the below recycling instructions for all of our packaging used.
Biodegradable & Compostable Packaging
Our boxes, both product & postal, are made from cardboard. Our tags, flavour menus & cards are all made from recycled cardboard.
Our stickers & tissue paper are both made from recycled materials and printed with plant based inks.
The cushion pads used inside some of our boxes to protect the macarons & treats during shipping are made from glassine paper (produced from wood pulp), making these biodegradable.
The clear bags used for our Maca-Wrongs & Wonky Mac Bites are made from NatureFlex ™ which is a compostable film made from wood pulp. It is home compostable, GM free and sourced from managed locations. This film has excellent properties and is made from renewable, sustainable sources.
The packing peanuts used in our postal packaging are 100% compostable & biodegradable. They are made from potato starch which can also be dissolved in warm water.
Reusable & Recyclable Packaging
The clam shell Macaron Tray inserts to hold the macarons in place are made from recycled plastic. These can be reused for a multitude of use (such as making seed trays for the gardeners among you). To re use your trays, simply wash them with warm soapy water. They can also be recycled along with your regular household recycling.
In the warm weather we also include Eco-Chill Packs which are made with Bio-Marine plastics and are reusable & recyclable. To reuse, just pop the chill pack in your freezer for 24 hours prior to use - Perfect to use for picnics. To Recycle, the contents can be emptied into the drain with warm running water to dilute. The substance is water based with added thickener, therefore not harmful. The outer casing can then be placed into your normal household recycling bin.
Non Recyclable Plastics
Any plastic used within our postal packaging is plastic from our own purchases (such as bubble wrap and sealed air void fill.
We recycle these items by re using them inside our postal boxes to help protect our macarons & treats. We encourage our customers to pass on the recycled plastic they receive in their order to the next person, ensuring it continues to be reused and recycled.
Whilst these items can't be widely recycled at home (council dependant), you can recycle them along with plastic bags at supermarket collection points across the UK.
